A WWE name confirmed that they are retired from in-ring competition following years of speculation regarding a potential return.
While best known to wrestling fans as “The Monster” Abyss, Chris Park has been a fixture of WWE’s behind-the-scenes set-up since 2019 – holding the role of a backstage producer.
With his last wrestling match also coming in 2019, fans have long speculated whether the former TNA mainstay could potentially return to the ring – with fans’ hopes renewed somewhat following Abyss’ surprise inclusion as a playable character in WWE 2K25’s Dunk & Destruction downloadable content pack.
Ahead of his inclusion in WWE 2K25 Park spoke with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp and confirmed that he is happily retired from in-ring competition, and is instead focused on being the best producer he can be.
Park said:
“To answer quite frankly, I’m done. Physically, I don’t have plans on wrestling again. Never say never, but I don’t see it in the cards, nor do I want it in the cards.
“I’m so happy with what I’m doing and the challenge that being a producer presents to me every day there. I’m so focused on that and being the best producer I can be.
“I had a great career with no regrets. Nothing I would have changed. It was time to move on and fortunately, I was lucky enough to be presented the opportunity to be a producer for the biggest and best wrestling company in the world.
“That, to me, was something that I never saw coming. I never thought that was going to be a possibility, just like I never thought this video game participation would be a possibility. That’s what I’m focused on now. Being the best producer I can be and contributing to the business that way.”
Further discussing his enjoyment of his backstage producer role, Park said:
“I just feel where I’m at in my life and career, I’m so enthralled in being a producer, I feel that’s where I’m best served. I’m focused on that and I continue to learn.
“It’s a learning process. I learn every week from the minds that I’m around and the talent I work with. It’s a non-stop learning process. That’s where my focus is at.
“If the opportunity ever rose and it’s the right situation, I just don’t think that’s where I want to be. I want to focus on being the best producer I can be.”
WWE 2K25’s Dunk & Destruction DLC pack releases on Wednesday, June 25, with The Great Khali, Shaquille O’Neil, Tyrese Haliburton and Jaylen Brunson joining Abyss in the game.
