WWE Name Says Former Star Was Almost World Champion

WWE Name Says Former Star Was Almost World Champion WWE

There are a lot of ‘What Ifs’ in WWE history, but one former Attitude Era star could have been more than that.

During Ahmed Johnson’s relatively short stint in WWE, he captured the Intercontinental Championship, but if you ask Bruce Prichard, Ahmed was being prepped for even bigger heights.

Speaking on Something to Wrestle, Prichard claimed that WWE were actually looking at Johnson as a potential WWE Champion, before explaining why he ultimately never reached the gold.

He said:

“We actually were looking at Ahmed possibly to be the champion. I think that there was enough there that we definitely could’ve pulled that off. It was an animal magnetism, man. It was raw, and it was genuine, the audience believed in him and looked at him as ‘This guy’s real.'”

When discussing what ultimately stopped Ahmed from reaching the heights Prichard had named, he said that it was Johnson’s own undoing.

He explained:

“I think that Ahmed was probably the number one person holding Ahmed back. Some guys can’t handle the spotlight. He believed the hype, and there was a lot of hype there to believe, but at some point, you have to deliver. I think that Ahmed, if his head was on right, would have been a megastar. Much bigger than he ever was.”
