WWE Backstage Name Teases In-Ring Return

Having last been seen in a wrestling ring during the 2021 Royal Rumble, a backstage WWE name has teased a potential return.

Shane Helms made his WWE debut in July 2001, bringing The Hurricane to life later that year and going on to hold the World Tag Team Championship with Rosey, the Super Hero in Training.

Speaking on Gabby AF, Helms has hinted that he may, once again, be donning the superhero-themed garb for an in-ring return, saying:

“Maybe. I’m starting to be able to get back into spandex shape, now.

“For a while, it wasn’t an option. They actually wanted me to do…John Cone called me and there was an appearance for me to do as Hurricane, head to toe. ‘John, you’ve seen me on TV every week. You know I can’t fit in that damn outfit.’

“The spandex don’t lie. That s**t tells the truth. Got me out there looking like a can of busted biscuits. I can’t have that on my conscience.”

Helms hasn’t been a stranger to WWE television, occasionally appearing on screen to break up chaotic moments with other producers, security and authority figures.

Before his appearance in the men’s Royal Rumble match in 2021, Helms last wrestled in tag team and singles match back in 2019, returning to WWE as a backstage producer later that year.

He would be temporarily furloughed during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, returning to his producer role in November of that year.

During that period, Helms appeared, as The Hurricane, during the Elite Deletion match at AEW Full Gear, with Matt Hardy later saying it was instrumental in getting him re-hired by WWE.
