During last night’s episode of WWE Raw, a new rule for tag team matches was finally made clear to the fans.
Jimmy Smith stated on commentary during the Women’s Tag Team Championship match that, once Rhea Ripley had broken up a pin attempt to save Nikki ASH from being pinned, their team couldn’t do any more saves.
This means there is a “one save rule” whereby a team can only break up one pin during the course of a match, which apparently has been a rule for ages and we were just never told.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez explained:
Meltzer: “Jimmy Smith mentioned in the Natalya match when Rhea Ripley made a save, ‘Now they’re not allowed to do anymore saves’. Evidently they are now doing a one save (rule). What was the rule before that they never said? Wasn’t it like three saves or two saves?”
Alvarez: “No, it was always a one save rule. They just never told you.”
Meltzer: “Well, they told us, there’s a one save rule. You can only do one save.”
Alvarez: “After all these years it’s now an official rule.”
Meltzer: “It’s been an official rule for years but they never said it on TV.”

That match saw Ripley and ASH win the Women’s Tag Team Title from Natalya and Tamina.
