‘I Want To Know His Story’ – WWE Should Acknowledge Nick Aldis Accomplishments In Other Companies Ahead Of SummerSlam 2026 Match, Says Legend

A WWE legend has shared the opinion that Nick Aldis’ in-ring accomplishments in other companies should be officially acknowledged.

For the first time in his career, Nick Aldis will step into a WWE ring at SummerSlam on August 1 & 2 to take on GUNTHER, with that match recently made official.

With a career that has seen Aldis as TNA World Heavyweight Champion, IWGP Tag Team Champion and a two-time NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion, among other achievements, Bully Ray has called for the many accomplishments of the star to be recognized.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, the WWE Hall of Famer weighed in on what Aldis has accomplished, saying:

“Why should anybody believe in Nick Aldis being as good of a wrestler as GUNTHER if we don’t know his past?”

Dave LaGreca would comment on the gap in the storytelling, reiterating Bully Ray’s point, stating:

“I would love it if they say ‘Former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Nick Aldis.'”

Bully Ray would suggest that it should go beyond that, particularly with the working relationship between WWE and TNA Wrestling, suggesting:

“Let’s just not say NWA. Let’s talk about the working relationship between the WWE and TNA, also.”

With LeGreca describing that reference as a “no brainer”, Bully Ray would go on to draw a possibility between both promotions and WWE, saying:

“And because of the relationship with the NWA and because of the relationship with TNA, that means TNA and NWA would most likely lend WWE footage to tell the story of Nick Aldis.

“And now, Nick Aldis in one fell swoop can bring everyone up to speed, or the WWE can bring everybody up to speed saying “this guy is not just a general manager who hides behind a suit. He’s a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion and he’s a former TNA World Heavyweight Champion.

“If I’m in the storytelling business, which the WWE touts at the top of its lungs, I want to know this story.”

Bully Ray would go on to explore the two matches he considers “one to watch”, with Aldis vs. GUNTHER joining Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar in the Hell in the Cell match, with LeGreca describing them as “something just so unique and different”, leading to fan excitement for the upcoming WWE PLE.

Nick Aldis: Before WWE

Despite only signing with WWE in August 2023 and serving in a producer role, Nick Aldis has only been a fixture on SmackDown since later that year.

It’s a curious situation that both Aldis and his WWE Raw general manager counterpart, Adam Pearce, have been delivered to fans in an authority figure basis, despite having extensive in-ring careers before joining the company.

For Aldis, he was a well-travelled star before putting pen to paper with WWE, with matches across the world, and many championships alongside the aforementioned TNA Wrestling, NWA and NJPW titles.

Aldis independent wrestling run came to an end in October 2023, after he signed with WWE, with his career starting all the way back in 2004 in his home country of England. Signing with TNA Wrestling in November 2008, he would be introduced as Brutus Magnus, going on to claim his first TNA World Tag Team Championship with his British Invasion teammate, Doug Williams, with whom he would be IWGP Tag Team Champion over in New Japan. A second reign would follow alongside Samoa Joe, with that pairing also seeing Pro Wrestling Noah title glory as GHC Tag Team Champions.

A TNA Wrestling run that spanned almost eight years (and a return in 2017), along with the NWA run of around five years, there’s plenty of opportunity for WWE to tap the well of both promotions when it comes to building a picture of just why Aldis is a credible threat to a man who has retired Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles in the past year alone.
