Former WWE Name Opens Up About Future AEW Plans AEW

A former WWE name has opened up about future AEW plans following his recent signing to Tony Khan’s company.

Nigel McGuinness made his first AEW appearance on April 5, announcing AEW All In at Wembley Stadium in London, England on AEW Dynamite.

In a recent conversation with Stephanie Chase, McGuinness discussed the path that led him from WWE to AEW, revealing that he had been the one to reach out about opportunities under Tony Khan’s Ring of Honor.

McGuinness would also discuss his future under the AEW and ROH umbrella, saying:

“It’s open to discussion, certainly (McGuinness said about his future role in AEW & ROH). When I talked to Tony (Khan), he had ideas in terms of which company.

“Obviously, heavily Ring of Honor but he didn’t rule out me doing some stuff with AEW as well.

“I talked to Sonjay Dutt before I started working here and he said, ‘The great thing about AEW is that you can really do what you feel like doing. If you wanna help out more behind the scenes in terms of being an agent, then that’s a possibility as well.’”

With the opportunity for new freedom in AEW, McGuinness would conclude by comparing AEW and WWE, stating:

“I feel like for whatever (reason), WWE, you have your own little compartment, your own department of where you work in that company and that certainly works for them.

“In AEW, it seems to be a little bit looser in terms of where you can give your opinion and help out. It’s more of a fluid, synergistic environment I think.”

The former ROH Pure and ROH World Champion retired from in-ring action in a much-celebrated tour in 2011.

He did, however, discuss the possibility of a wrestling return at AEW All In on August 27.

McGuinness recently spoke about his release from WWE as not being a “huge shock”, speaking positively about his time with the company and touching on a possible return to wrestling in the light of the success of Edge, Lita and Trish Stratus.
