A former WWE star has recently filed to trademark their own ring name according to an application submitted in May 2023.
Under his real name name Steven Haworth, the recently signed AEW star Nigel McGuinness is seeking to trademark the name that he’s used since 1999.
According to the report on the USPTO Report website, Haworth’s trademark registration:
“is intended to cover the categories of entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Providing online interviews featuring a professional wrestler and sports entertainer in the field of professional wrestling and sports entertainment for entertainment purposes.”
The Primary US Classes for the registration are 100: Miscellaneous, 101: Advertising and Business and 107: Education and Entertainment.
The Primary International Class for the registration is 041, (Education and entertainment) Education; providing of training; entertainment; sporting and cultural activities.
The application was submitted on May 4 2023 and, as of May 8, is “awaiting assignment to an examining attorney.”
McGuinness first appeared in AEW on the April 5 episode of Dynamite, going on to perform commentary duties on ROH Supercard of Honor.
It was also reported that he will have a “spokesperson” role on behalf of Tony Khan and work backstage in Talent Relations.
McGuinness has recently addressed the possibility of an in-ring return.
In the same interview, he also spoke about his release from WWE and his appreciation of his time with the company.
