A nixed pitch for a WWE star to return to an international promotion for a crossover match has been revealed.
Giulia officially arrived in WWE in September 2024, after a run with Rossy Ogawa’s new Japanese joshi promotion Marigold.
During an interview with Sports Graphic Number, Ogawa revealed that Giulia recently wanted to make a return for Nanae Takahashi’s retirement match, and was considered as a potential opponent.
Noting that WWE commitments prevented this match from taking place, Ogawa said:
At first, Giulia wanted to come, so we considered having her as her opponent, but it happened to coincide with a pay per view match over there (WWE). The card had already been decided, so we decided on (Miku) Aono.
Nanae Takahashi’s retirement match against (Miku) Aono will take place on Saturday, May 24 in Tokyo, Japan.
Giulia – who was recently called up to SmackDown – is slated to compete in a Money in the Bank qualifying match on Friday’s SmackDown episode is Savannah, Georgia, USA, against Charlotte Flair and Women’s US Champion Zelina Vega.
Because of time zones and flight lengths, it’d be impossible for Giulia to attend both shows.
WWE does have its own special taking place on May 24, with Saturday Night’s Main Event airing from the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida.
