WWE’s drive to recruit wrestlers from elsewhere continues and a surprise name has garnered the company’s interest.
The aftermath of NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 is still being felt with one major match being set that could define the future of its stars.
The tensions between Jay White and Hikuleo reached a head at NJPW New Year Dash!! on January 5 when, after losing his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at the Tokyo Dome the night before, White laid out a challenge to Hikuleo.
Demanding a Loser Leaves Japan Match with Hikuleo, speculation was that this would see White leaving New Japan and potentially rocking up at WWE to join his Bullet Club brethren in that company.
A new report, however, had provided some further details.
Fightful Select (subscription required) reports that WWE does, indeed, have an interest in an NJPW star.
And, it’s Hikuleo.
Fightful reports that the company has expressed interest in the 31-year-old and this interest has been apparent for “months” prior to Wrestle Kingdom.
At present, as noted by Fightful, it isn’t apparent whether the two parties have been in touch with each other or when Hikuleo’s NJPW contract is up.
The sources have stated that, “like with Finn Balor helping bring in Dragon Lee, intermediaries have been used to express interest to the talent themselves in many cases.”
Hikuleo could be quite an asset for WWE, standing at 6’8″ and having been trained at Team 3D Academy, the NJPW Dojo and Fale Dojo.
