A history-making WWE milestone will take place at NXT Battleground on Sunday, May 28 in Lowell, Massachusetts.
The upcoming live event is being held on the same night as AEW Double or Nothing and will see all the NXT championships on the line (besides the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship which is held by Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn who were just drafted to SmackDown).
One match, in particular, will be a historic moment for WWE, however.
With the vacant NXT Women’s Championship on the line after Indi Hartwell vacated the title following the recent WWE Draft and an injury, Tiffany Stratton and Lyra Valkyria face off to become the new NXT Women’s Champion.
Whoever wins that match will be the 100th woman in the history of WWE to hold a WWE Championship as noted by Queens of Wrestling on Twitter.
The new champion will be the fifteenth champion to hold the title since its introduction in 2013 which saw Paige become the inaugural champion.
Stratton recently commented on the handling of the NXT Women’s Championship following Hartwell vacating it, saying “they want to give all the girls their chances.”
The popularity of Stratton has recently been cited by people within WWE as a reason for a recent boost in WWE NXT viewership.
Stratton has recently discussed her conditions for a main roster call up, saying she’d rather stay in NXT to fully develop than be rushed onto the main roster before she’s ready.
The card for NXT Battleground on Sunday, May 28 is as follows:
NXT Championship – Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Bron Breakker
NXT Women’s Championship – Lyra Valkyria vs. Tiffany Stratton
Heritage Cup Championship – Noam Dar (c) vs. Dragon Lee
NXT Tag Team Championship – Mark Coffey & Wolfgang (c) vs. Brutus & Julius Creed
North American Championship – Wes Lee (c) vs. Joe Gacy vs. Tyler Bate
Last Man Standing – Dijak vs. Ilja Dragunov
IT’S OFFICIAL!
Whoever walks out of #NXTBattleground with the NXT Women’s Championship will become the 100th Woman in history to win a WWE Championship.
