WrestleTalk is providing live coverage of the January 29, 2020 edition of NXT. Tonight’s show should be another quality show. Who will challenge Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: Portland?
Here’s what’s advertised for the show:
- NXT Champion Adam Cole’s TakeOver: Portland challenger to be named
- Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne to battle Grizzled Young Veterans in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Final
- Former best friends Tegan Nox and Dakota Kai to battle
- What’s next for new NXT North American Champion Keith Lee?
The Dusty Rhodes Classic Finals
The Broseweights and GYV are underway. Who will be the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Classic winners?
This match has been back and forth. Lots of great action. Both teams are getting their big spots in. It looked like the Broserweights were going to pick up the win when they hit the Bitter End/Bro to Sleep.
It was just a near fall. Then it looked like GYV would win, but it was just another near fall.
Ultimately, Dunne and Riddle would be too much. They picked up the win in a flurry of offense in the final 3 minutes.
Riddle and Dunne are the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Classic Tournament Winners. They’ll be going on to NXT TakeOver: Portland to face Undisputed Era for the Tag Team Championships.
That’s it. That’s the show. Pretty good night of action setting up a lot of the card for NXT TakeOver: Portland.

Chelsea Green
Chelsea Green and the Robert Stone brand officially debut on NXT. She’s taking on Kayden Carter.
Kayden Carter WINS!!! Well, that was surprising. Chelsea Green spent too much time showboating and gets rolled up.
Hmm. That’s one way to debut.
The Dusty Classic finals are next.
OKAY, @wwekayden!!! 🙌 #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/3ZOeuOAjPd

That was quick!
Nox picks up the victory and gets some revenge over Dakota Kai. After Candice LeRae stopped Kai from using a chair, the ref was distracted.
While the refs back was turned, Nox used the knee brace and whacked Kai with it. She then hits the Shiniest Wizard for the win.
For what is supposed to be a blood feud, the match didn’t quite live up to that standard. It was good, but a lot was left on the table. I’m sure this will continue and Kai won’t let it end here.
She's going for the brace!
But it's NOT happening on @TeganNoxWWE_'s watch.#WWENXT @DakotaKai_WWE pic.twitter.com/ovrmgNpoIM

Goldie's Coming Home!
Ciampa cuts a promo telling us he’s going get Goldie back. We come back from commercial and Ciampa has attacked 3/4 of Undisputed Era.
Ciampa drags a table in the ring and tells Cole he going to take his title back in Portland. After some back and forth, they start fighting.
Ciampa puts Cole through the table. He then signs the contract and it’s Ciampa/Cole at Portland.
While it’s a great match and I’m looking forward to it, this wasn’t the epic announcement we were expecting.
"I'm the guy who never lost the #NXTTitle.
I'M GOLDIE'S DADDY."@NXTCiampa didn't come to play, people! #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/19J0l0u6D3

We're basking in his Glory
Keith Lee addresses the crowd and his recent win of the North American Title. He’s quickly interrupted by Damian Priest.
Priest was quickly interrupted by Dominik Dijakovic. Keith Lee splits. Dijakovic and Priest start fighting and the match is underway.
I felt this was the best Keith Lee has been in a promo. He seemed very relaxed and felt very comfortable as the champ.
No surprise here, but Dijakovic and Priest put on quite an impressive showing. There was a lot of lanky dudes flipping and flopping in and out of the ring.
Dijakovic kicked out of an Avalanche Poison-rana. He popped up an hit the Feast Your Eyes for the victory. This should set up a match for the North American Title between Lee and Dijakovic.

Shotzi Blackheart vs. Deonna Purrazzo
Shotzi comes out in a tank. However, Purrazzo in nonplussed by it.
Blackheart makes quick work of Purrazzo. She hits the senton from the top rope and gets the win. A quick 5 min match.
Probably didn’t need to be any longer than that. Shotzi jumps back in her tanks and heads off.
However, before the match started we get a mysterious video…

Finn Balor in Action
Finn Balor is out to open the show. He’s facing Trent Seven.
Balor had attacked Seven before the match and continued the beat down during the match. Balor was very aggressive and picked up the victory with the 1916.
Great opener. Seven looked good, but doesn’t lose much in losing to Balor. Seven got some nasty chops in and put up a good fight. However, NXT is building to Gargano/Balor. Balor winning makes a lot of sense.
We get another terrific Broserweight promo. This is one of those odd couples that just works. Riddle says can’t you just see the love for me in Pete’s eyes. Awesome stuff.
