Last seen in a WWE ring back in May, a former champion is heading to another company, and his opponent has now been revealed.

Pete Dunne last teamed with Tyler Bate on the May 26 episode of WWE Main Event, with New Catch Republic being victorious over A-Town Down Under (Grayson Waller & Austin Theory).

Dunne had previously been announced for a return at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport, which takes place over WWE SummerSlam weekend.

His opponent has now been revealed by Barnett, with the August 2 GCW show seeing Dunne face Jonathan Gresham, as announced in a Twitter post that reads:

“Two of Pro Wrestling’s most dangerous grapplers are set to clash at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XIV.

“Refined in skills and holds but possessing the blunt viciousness needed when skill is not enough. These two are set to tear down the house and one another.

“Pete Dunne takes on Jonathan Gresham”

Gresham and Dunne last shared the ring in December 2018 at Progress Wrestling when British Strong Style (Dunne, Bate & Trent Seven) took on CCK (Gresham & Chris Brookes) & Timothy Thatcher.

Pete Dunne would respond to the match announcement, with a post of his own that stated:

“Back to work

“Probably.”

While Dunne may not have been seen in a WWE ring in two months, it appears he is now the third man under the El Grande Americano mask.

Despite rumors that there were injuries involved in the absence of New Catch Republic, Tyler Bate suggested this was not the case in a recent social media post.

Both members of New Catch Republic were in attendance for the tribute to the late Hulk Hogan on the July 28 episode of WWE Raw.
