WWE Hall of Famer Edge’s loss on this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw was more significant than you might’ve realised.
On the February 20 show, the Rated R Superstar challenged for Austin Theory’s US Championship. Theory ultimately retained his title, pinning Edge after an A-Town Down, and an assist from Finn Balor.
It had been a long time since Edge has suffered a pinfall defeat, with this loss marking the first time a star had pinned Edge’s shoulders to the mat for a three-count in over 500 days.
Prior to his US Title match loss, the last time Edge was pinned was during his rivalry with Seth Rollins in 2021. Rollins bested Edge on the September 10, 2021 edition of SmackDown, which emanated from Madison Square Garden, 528 days ago.
Edge has suffered defeat since then, but was not pinned. Finn Balor scored a victory over Edge in an ‘I Quit’ match at Extreme Rules in October, after threatening Beth Phoenix.
The Rated R Superstar and Phoenix defeated Balor and Rhea Ripley at Elimination Chamber on February 18, interestingly using a Shatter Machine to finish the bout.
Phoenix continued to reference FTR following the bout, amid speculation about the AEW stars’ futures.
