It’s being reported that WWE actually planned on splitting the team of AJ Styles and Omos in the recent WWE Draft.
The former Raw Tag Team Champions ended up beiong drafted together and will be staying on the red brand, but that very nearly didn’t happen.
As reported by WrestleVotes, WWE was going to split the duo until “people of power”, which included a top Raw talent, suggested Omos wasn’t ready for a singles run yet.
WWE management evidently listened to that and decided it was best to keep them together.
They held the Raw Tag Team Championship together for 133 days, having won them from New Day at WrestleMania, and holding them until they were beaten by current champions RK-Bro at SummerSlam.
Several teams were split in the draft, including all but one women’s team (the champions Nikki ASH and Rhea Ripley, who still aren’t even really a team), but AJ Styles and Omos survived by the skin of their teeth.
Another team that WWE talked about splitting but ended up keeping together was the Street Profits.
