WWE is reportedly planning to add yet another new championship to its ranks, set to established on Raw soon.
UPDATE: The WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship was announced by Adam Pearce before tonight’s Raw went on the air – click here for the latest.
WWE has already introduced multiple new titles this year, including the Speed Championships for both men and women, and the Crown Jewel Championships for men and women as well.
However, a woman-specific championship was announced a couple of weeks ago in the form of the Women’s United States Championship.
A tournament is currently ongoing to decide the first ever Women’s US Champion, which will culminate with the final at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14.
So far, we know one of the semi-finals is Bayley vs Chelsea Green, while the other is still to be determined in the quarter-final three-way matches.
The tournament is SmackDown-exclusive, which has led to questions about whether there’d be a Raw counterpart.
The answer to those questions appears to be – yes.
As reported by PWInsider Elite via (WrestleOps), “planning is underway” for a Women’s Intercontinental Championship to be introduced on WWE Raw.
The belief currently is that the rollout will begin once the Women’s US Title has already been established.
We’ll keep you posted if there are any further updates.
