Ronda Rousey made her return to WWE after almost 3 years to win the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble match last night (January 29), and is reportedly set for a SmackDown Women’s Championship clash with Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania.
When it was reported that Rousey would be challenging Flair, fans expressed confusion, as the natural opponent for Rousey would seem to be Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.
Per Dave Melzter in Wrestling Observer Radio, Rousey and Lynch are set to clash, just it is planned to take place at next year’s WrestleMania in SoFi Stadium.
He noted:
“As soon as I did the reporting of the thing (plans for Ronda Rousey vs Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania), people were just like, ‘It should have been Becky, it should have been Becky’. Which at one point, it was.
“But the whole thing is, is that, as best I can tell, the plan is for Ronda and Becky for the 2023 WrestleMania. So it’s not like that match isn’t happening. Of course, people can get hurt, people can… a million things can happen between now and 2023, but that’s basically the deal is that she was gonna come in for two WrestleManias.”

Meltzer also noted that Rousey is set to be a ‘regular’ member of the WWE roster, and that he match with Flair won’t just be a one and done deal.
He added:
“She’s in as a ‘regular’. I don’t know what that means as far as, I don’t know that it’s gonna be every week, but she’s gonna be a regular member (of the roster) in the sense that she’s gonna do big shows and everything like that. It’s not just she’s gonna come in, put over Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania and go on her merry way.”

With Rousey set to challenge Flair, it is expected that WWE will be staying on course with Lynch defending her title against Bianca Belair at WrestleMania.
