Whether it’s the Mae Young Classic, King of the Ring or the WWE World Cup to crown Shane McMahon, WWE loves a good old tournament.
In fact, they love them so much that they’re reportedly planning a new one for 2019. It’ll basically be a female version of King of the Ring, so I bet you’ll never guess what it is going to be called.
That’s right, it’s Queen of the Ring.
This report comes from the latest Wrestling Observer newsletter, which notes the tournament is likely to comprise main roster stars from both Raw and SmackDown Live.
While plans have not been confirmed, Dave Meltzer believes that, following the success of Evolution in October, WWE are keen on new ideas to spruce up the women’s division, and have at least one all women’s PPV every year going forward.
It could theoretically be a replacement for the battle royal that took place at this year’s show, which would give the show a bit of a boost, given that they already do an all women’s battle royal at WrestleMania.
It would allow for the forgotten/poorly utilised stars to have a run out and presumably the winner would get a title shot down the line.
