WWE Prepared Big Plans For Drew McIntyre Before Neck Injury

WWE Prepared Big Plans For Drew McIntyre Before Neck Injury

After defeating Madcap Moss at WWE Day 1, McIntyre was ambushed by Moss and Corbin backstage. It was later reported that this attack was to write McIntyre off TV while he gets a neck issue he has been working through checked out.

As per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE had big creative plans in store for the top star. It was noted that WWE is aiming for a McIntyre vs Roman Reigns feud at some point.

Discussing McIntyre’s appearance at WWE Day 1, Meltzer said:

“I don’t think anyone believed for a second (Madcap Moss) was going to beat Drew McIntyre. It’s funny because with Drew McIntyre being hurt, you know, they could have done it, but they didn’t even dare do it. I wouldn’t have either because, at the end of the day, the plan is still supposed to be Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns at some point. So he shouldn’t be losing to Madcap Moss even if he is going to be hurt. Hopefully, the injury is not too bad.”

It is currently unclear how long McIntyre will be out of action for.

Prior to the first ‘premium live event’ of 2022, WWE’s house show schedule had McIntyre facing whoever the Universal Champion would be after the pay-per-view, either Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar.

The Universal Championship bout set for WWE Day 1 didn’t take place as Reigns tested positive for COVID-19 on the day of the event. Lesnar was added to the WWE Championship match, which he ultimately won.

A backstage update has emerged on WrestleMania 38 plans for Reigns and Lesnar, following WWE Day 1, which you can read at this link.
