WWE Plans For Kevin Owens After Cody Rhodes Post-Show Attack Update

WWE Plans For Kevin Owens After Cody Rhodes Post-Show Attack Update WWE

Backstage news has emerged on the Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens post-match attack segment at Saturday Night’s Main Event 2024.

The December 14 NBC special was headlined by an Undisputed WWE Championship match, with Rhodes putting his gold on the line against Kevin Owens.

While Rhodes was ultimately victorious, after hitting Owens with a Cross Rhodes onto a chair following two referee bumps, it was the post match angle which got fans talking.

After the live broadcast ended, Owens ambushed Rhodes and hit him with a brutal package piledriver, leading to the American Nightmare leaving the arena on a stretcher.

Following speculation about this segment, new reports have shed some more light onto plans for the segment.

Per Dave Meltzer in his Wrestling Observer Daily Updates, the segment went exactly as planned, contrary to some rumors swirling.

Meltzer pointed out that some people thought the show ended before this angle because the special went on for too long, but noted that this wasn’t the case.

Fightful Select added that they were told that this post-show attack was planned to help ‘bridge the gap’ for this week’s shows.

Fightful reports that as of this past weekend, the plan was for WWE to air this attack on SmackDown, before a backstage segment with Kevin Owens on the Friday-night show.

WWE has now shared an injury update on Cody Rhodes, which you can read more about right here.
