WWE plans to use Trish Stratus and Lita as a regular team

Last Monday night on Raw, WWE revealed that Alexa Bliss and Mickie James will battle Trish Stratus and Lita, who call themselves ‘Besties Best for Business,’ in a tag team match at WWE Evolution.

While this contrasts with what was announced via various promotional posters prior to the segment, the tag match was the plan for quite some time.

According to Wrestling Observer News, the Trish vs. Alexa promotional poster was revealed early to boost ticket sales for WWE Evolution. This spot was initially for the Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella main event, but WWE chose to wait until an angle was created for them before swapping them in, which occurred last Monday night.

According to PW Insider, the decision to make the two single matches into a tag match was made about two weeks ago. The main reason for this is WWE planning to create more matches for the duo, who are expected to appear on major shows as a team.

The decision to make the two singles bouts into a tag team match makes sense in a broader scale. Currently, Alexa is injured so performing in a tag can help her hide the injury. Her alliance with Mickie is logical as the two have been established as allies on screen for a long time.

Trish and Lita’s historic rivalry headlined Raw in December 2004, the first time a woman’s match was in the main event. Trish also inducted Lita into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014.  Mickie has a long history with both of her opponents, so there is history there that WWE can use in the match promotion.
