WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER has predicted that he will wrestle in the main event of WrestleMania 40 next year.
At this weekend’s WrestleMania 39 show, GUNTHER will defend his gold in a three-way bout against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus.
The Ring General has now made a bold prediction about his position on next year’s card, stating that he plans to headline WrestleMania 40.
When asked by Ariel Helwani for BT Sport where he’s going to be at WrestleMania 40, GUNTHER simply replied:
“The main event.”
When asked if this was his goal, GUNTHER stated that it’s his prediction.
Helwani then asked if GUNTHER would want to challenge for the world title in his predicted main event, to which GUNTHER responded:
“That’s something we shall see. I don’t plan on losing this one (Intercontinental Title), and I want to make it the most important thing there is, so…”
Stating that he doesn’t have an opponent in mind for his WrestleMania main event, GUNTHER noted:
“I’ll leave that up to everybody else. I don’t care.
“There are obviously (dream opponents he has) in this company, there are so many great guys I would really like to get in the ring with, but whatever the challenge is, I’m going to take it head on and make the most out of that.
“Everything will come around in the end, (you’ll) get in the ring with everybody if you’re here long enough, so I take it as it comes.

GUNTHER notably made it from the #1 spot to the final two of the Royal Rumble match in January, with Cody Rhodes ultimately eliminating the Intercontinental Championship to punch his ticket to WrestleMania.
On Sunday’s show, Rhodes will challenge for Roman Reigns’ WWE Undisputed Universal Championship.
