This week on Friday Night SmackDown, Goldberg appeared on the ThunderDome for the Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman that main evented the “season premiere” show.
Inside The Ropes is now reporting the real reason why WWE had Goldberg as one of the virtual fans for the show this week. The site is also speculating that it could lead to an in-ring return for the former Universal Champion:
WWE sources have told Inside the Ropes that Goldberg’s return on Friday was designed to give SmackDown a boost in the ratings for its premiere episode and with the view to putting some wheels in motion for Royal Rumble/WrestleMania season.
That would suggest that Goldberg is going to factor in to the futures of Reigns or Strowman and many people will no doubt hope it’s not the former unless it’s a squash job for The Tribal Chief.
This would certainly make it seem as if Roman Reigns or Braun Strowman vs. Goldberg is something that WWE is considering, potentially even at WrestleMania. WWE obviously wanted to have Reigns vs. Goldberg at ‘Mania 36 before Roman pulled out of the show with COVID-related concerns.
