WWE Promise ‘New Faces’ To 205 Live Roster

WWE Promise ‘New Faces’ To 205 Live Roster

In a backstage promo directed at WWE fans, Drake Maverick announced his plans for the New Year as 205 Live general manager. Among not-so-concrete details, Maverick did reveal that ‘new faces’ would join the 205 Live roster in 2019.

Maverick has avoided being canned as a GM, unlike fellow on-air authority figure, Paige, who was dismissed when the McMahons ‘took back’ their programming recently. As long as he’s at the helm of 205 Live, Maverick reminds us, he intends to make it the number one destination for the world’s best cruiserweights.

As no names have been announced yet, we’re forced to speculate who the new acquisitions might be. Will talent from NXT or NXT UK be sent to 205 Live to brighten things up? Will main roster stars from RAW or SmackDown, who haven’t been given much anyhow, get the call? Someone like Tyler Breeze? Will WWE sign new talent from the indies to join the ranks of 205?

What is a Cruiserweight, Really?

This also raises an age-old question. Who does Vince McMahon view as a cruiserweight, and who does he view as a future main eventer and champion? While cruiserweights might have more respect now than at other times in WWE’s history, there’s still a world of difference between major television exposure and a barely-promoted network special.

It’s depressing, but still possible, that fan favorites and top wrestlers like Johnny Gargano or Adam Cole might be relegated to the least-watched brand one day. New faces do open the door for existing talent, however. We have seen Mustafa Ali move up to SmackDown Live and pin Daniel Bryan. Could Buddy Murphy next?
