Backstage Push For WWE Star To Win Championship WWE

The WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship tournament is underway on Raw, with first-round matches taking place throughout December.

Currently making their way to the semi-finals are Dakota Kai and Lyra Valkyria with victories over Katana Chance & Shayna Baszler and Zelina Vega & Ivy Nile respectively.

Upcoming matches in the first-round will see Zoey Stark vs. Raquel Rodriguez vs. Kayden Carter and Alba Fyre vs. Kairi Sane vs. Natalya.

While the date for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship tournament final is yet to be announced, details of who backstage sources would like to see win have been revealed.

Per Backstage Pass Q&A WrestleVotes revealed “feedback” that there was interest in Natalya being the inaugural title holder.

Speaking about the sentiment of a Natalya win,  WrestleVotes is quoted as saying:

“We spoke last week on this show about how I’d like it to be Natalya.

“I did hear some feedback with some sentiments that were similar from sources that said they would like it to be Natalya as well.

“Now, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be her but there is some favouritism maybe that would like to see her win the Intercontinental Championship.”

Natalya is a former WWE Divas Champion, SmackDown Women’s Champion and held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with Tamina.

The veteran recently reflected on the fourteenth anniversary of her first WWE title win at Survivor Series in November 2010.

Natalya has also previously pitched the idea of an international crossover match with Miyu Yamashita of Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling.

In July 2024, it was reported that Natalya signed a new WWE contract in May of that year after speculation of a move to AEW or free agency.
