The September 2 episode of WWE Raw saw the new commentary team of Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett calling the action.
The duo replace Michael Cole and Pat McAfee until the pair return to the commentary table in January when WWE Raw moves to Netflix.
Cole will be the voice of WWE SmackDown alongside Corey Graves from September 13 until January and the Netflix debut for Raw.
Tessitore joined WWE on July 9, 2024 and was described as ‘one of the most versatile and veteran voices in sports television’ in the official announcement of his signing.
With his first WWE commentary in the bag, Tessitore commented on his Raw debut in a video that can be seen below this news story, saying:
“How do I feel? [Points to the fans] This is how I feel. You feel alive. You feel passion, and you feel intensity.
“You want to live in the red in life. That’s what this is, Raw, live in the red. This was an awesome night.”
With Wade Barrett introducing Tessitore to the WWE Raw fans on last night’s show, as can be seen below this news story, the new announcer also reflected on that moment, saying:
“I was very into them, it was a great reception. It meant a lot to me. I brought out the little kid in me tonight. I went and I grabbed a bunch of t-shirts and merchandise. I spread the love, and I wanted to see smile on these children’s faces.
“From start to finish, I thought that what was thread this evening was very special, and it was great to see it. Night one in the books, let’s have many more.”
Tessitore would reveal that, as a young wrestling fan, he skipped school to meet Big John Studd and that he was “the kind who was rooting against all the faces”, going to assess his own performance on WWE Raw, noting:
” That’s the kid that you got tonight. I wasn’t great tonight, I wasn’t great tonight, but I was a passionate fan tonight.”
Joe Tessitore will continue to serve as an play-caller for college football on ESPN and ABC, with the official WWE press release noting he has been in that role since 2002.
