Original Plans For John Cena & Cody Rhodes WWE Raw Segment Update WWE

The March 17 episode of WWE Raw saw John Cena launch a tirade against the fans and Cody Rhodes confront the retiring star.

The segment would clock in at just over thirty minutes, with reports that some things were later changed on WWE Raw due to this.

While it has been reported that WWE were ‘ecstatic‘ with the reaction to Cena’s promo, details have now emerged on WWE’s original plans for the segment to run much shorter.

Speaking on Backstage Pass, WrestleVotes has revealed that the segment was originally slated for fifteen minutes, with some content moved to social media that was supposed to be seen on WWE Raw.

According to unnamed sources, among the content moved to social media was Maxxine Dupri and Natalya’s segment along with a spot with Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, with WrestleVotes saying:

“After speaking to sources regarding this past Monday’s Raw, we are told the beginning of the show went longer than initially planned, as the opening segment with John Cena and Cody Rhodes was slated for just 15 minutes.

“Due to the overrun in segment number one, much of the content then featured on WWE social accounts such as The Maxxine Dupri-Natalya Alpha Academy segment, along with the Bayley-Lyra Valkyria spot, were indeed planned for the live broadcast.”

WrestleVotes would also confirm that the match between Jey Uso and Austin Theory, which went for less than a minute, was also set to be much longer, stating:

“In addition, the now slightly controversial matchup between Jey Uso and Austin Theory was planned for eight minutes of in-ring action post-Jey’s commercial break entrance, which, of course, ended much shorter.”

With the match stacking up dislikes after it was shared to the WWE YouTube account, Theory has responding to the poorly received segment.

Sharing a message on social media, Theory would state “keep moving” with a rocket emoji in a post made to Twitter on March 18.
