WWE Raw Preview, May 28, 2018 – 5 Minute Gauntlet Match, Anyone?

At least we know WWE’s creative ideas for the women’s division isn’t going to change any time soon.

One main feud, and then everyone else beating each other up for no reason. No feuds, no stories, no point.

Tonight’s Raw will feature a seven woman “last chance qualifier” gauntlet match to determine who will take the last Raw place in the Women’s Money in the Bank (MitB) match on June 17.

Deep breath…Dana Brooke, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Mickie James, Sarah Logan, Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott will battle in what could well be the shortest gauntlet match ever.

But never fear, we could get to see dream matches like Dana Brooke vs Liv Morgan and Dana Brooke vs everyone else. She’s a dream machine that woman.

If this goes longer than half an hour I’ll be very surprised. If I had to make a prediction, I’m going for a Ruby Riott win following a (previously eliminated) Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan interference. Good luck making it interesting.

The other match already announced for tonight – although we’ll probably get a variation of B-team vs Fashion Police, and Bobby Roode will beat Elias – is Seth Rollins defending his Intercontinental Title against Jinder Mahal.

This, at least in my opinion, gives WWE a bit of a problem.

Jinder is set to face Roman Reigns at MitB, making him a bona fide main-eventer, and therefore can hardly afford to lose here. Seth also can’t lose, because that would mean Jinder is Intercontinetal Champion, and no-one wants to see that.

The only possible outcome for this match is Reigns interference and Jinder losing as a result or winning via DQ meaning Seth retains.

Because of this, I don’t think anyone is even slightly considering a title change, which takes a lot away from the match. Oh well.

After managing to be a part of the two worst segments on WWE TV in 2018 in the space of three weeks, we are almost certainly going to see some kind of angry promo from Bobby Lashley.

Having already beaten up his real life sisters, it seems the logical next step is a few matches with Sami Zayn, which Sami will inevitably lose…but then again, they’re clearly trying to bury Lashley so maybe they’ll have Zayn squash him in two minutes.

I honestly don’t want to imagine what’s next in store in this feud, but it’ll probably involve Bobby actual sisters coming to the ring and triple power-bombing Sami Zayn, because that’s WWE creative for you. Just let them fight and have Bobby turn heel or at least give him a personality.

Raw is pretty devoid of story lines at the moment, so the last one to focus on is the Rousey vs Jax feud, which is mildly exciting.

That’s not to say it won’t get more exciting, because a few ounces of good booking could turn this from a badly initiated feud into an actual feud.

If they’re properly turning Nia heel, give her a few squash matches, and have her threaten that Ronda will have the same fate when they face each other. Nia’s heel promos are uncomfortable to watch at the moment, which is a shame because it’s her best character.

The main issue is that they’re turned her heel after that sickeningly awful red carpet segment where the match was decided. She was so happy to be facing Ronda, and they all giggled and woo’d so merrily. Two weeks later however, and they hate each other and arms will be pulled out of sockets and people will be squished.

If you’re going to turn someone heel, give them a reason. It’s just so ridiculously convenient that Nia is a bad guy again and no-one is going to buy into it.
