WWE Raw Review, May 21, 2018 – Bobby Hates His Sisters

Who saw that coming? Bobby Lashley beating down on his actual sisters. Three beautiful women just crushed by who they thought was their lovely little brother.

The Lashley household will be pretty tense next time everyone is there for dinner.

Let’s face it though, it was exactly what we all expected to happen, and so I suppose we can’t be disappointed by the outcome. It’s hard to see where he goes from here but at least it feels like WWE has realized how stupid this whole thing was in the first place.

You would assume this will set up some kind of match between Zayn and Lashley, one that Lashley will of course win, so it does feel like this whole thing has just been a way of burying Sami… again.

It’s got to the point where I don’t think anyone is even surprised by the treatment of Sami Zayn, so until something actually positive happens in a storyline involving him, I’m going to keep quiet and just let them get on with it.

The show itself started in a way that it hasn’t started in at least a week, so it’s nice to see that WWE is keeping things fresh.

Kurt Angle came out to talk about last week and this week and the week after and Money in the Bank (MitB) and his 67 kids and… but wait!

Stephanie McMahon is back everyone, and if you can all silence your cheers for a second, I actually think this is a good thing. Kurt has been stumbling through promo after promo, week after week since ‘Mania, and Raw needs another dynamic.

Yes, she’s back in her ‘best for business’ role, but her being back really is best for business if you ask me. She can antagonize with the best of them, which is exactly what she did when Roman Reigns plodded to the ring, halfway through someone’s promo as usual.

Was it just my feed, or was Roman being less booed than usual? At the London show last week, you could hardly hear him speak over the boos.

He warned Steph that he would go out to the locker room and beat up all Steph’s favorites. Oh, the irony.

This brought out Kevin Owens, who after telling everyone that him winning the MitB briefcase would be best for business, was put in a match with Roman Reigns.

Roman no-sold most of Kevin’s moves, which I know was the make Roman look like a badass, but it also made everyone that Kevin has ever punched look stupid. What’s the issue with them having a competitive fight?

As predicted by a wise man (me), Jinder Mahal interrupted the match, and Seth Rollins interrupted the interruption. Four men in a ring, two good guys, two bad guys… damn, if only there were a kind of match that would allow two people to face two other people.

They had a tag match everyone, and guess who won? Seth pinned Kevin, and Roman vs. Jinder has been announced for MitB. Toilet break match confirmed.

Other than this opening segment, there was very little else interesting going on throughout the three hours. Ronda Rousey and Nia Jax signed their contract for MitB, a segment full of Stephanie trying to turn them against each other.

AND GUESS WHAT!

They turned against each other. Oh Steph, you total menace.

Looks like Nia has turned heel, what a massive surprise for every human that is. Luckily, it’s not like she was a massive babyface last week, so it’s not just a way of making it a heel vs. babyface match. Convenient.

The main event between Finn Bálor and Braun Strowman was pretty damn good. Earlier in the night, the two men approached Kurt and asked for a rematch after their loss against Drew and Dolph last week. However, Kurt, like Stephanie, managed to turn the two men against each other, and then Braun crushed an apple with his hand.

Why did he crush an apple? Who cares? It was great.

The match itself went a lot longer than a lot of people would have expected, and both men got in a lot of good offense before Braun eventually picked up the pinfall. These sorts of matches prove that Braun isn’t just an excuse for squash matches and that he can really go in the ring.

It also made me dream of potential future matches these two could have if Braun were to finally win the Universal Championship.

There are so many dream matches in the WWE, all the writers have to do is make them happen… and then not booked them 14 times a week… AJ vs. Nakamura anyone?
