WWE Raw Star Injury Update

WWE Raw Star Injury Update

This past Thursday, Sam Roberts spoke to Curt Hawkins on his NotSam Wrestling pod-cast. During the interview the two discussed many things, including Curt’s thoughts on wrestling figures and why he hasn’t been on WWE programming.

Sam and Curt started by talking about Curt and Zack Ryder’s new pod-cast, The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast. As the interview progressed, conversation turned to why Hawkins hasn’t been on TV recently:

“The second week [the pod-cast] was launched, I got hurt, so I’ve been hurt this whole time. I literally feel like a wrestling figure pod-caster, not a wrestler. If i go on Twitter, all my feedback is just that, because I’m not on television and stuff. I got a hernia, I’m pretty sure picking up Broski (Ryder) and slamming him at a live event.”

With Hawkins having been away from WWE programming since late August, Curt spoke about returning to the ring:

“I’m hoping to be cleared very very soon, it’s a minor surgery, but it’s still surgery and a big deal and stuff. I’m hoping to be cleared this week.”

Working out of the ring

Curt went to to describe the work he’s been doing since being unable to perform:

“I realised I was hurt, got everything situated with what I was going to do, [regarding] going to get surgery and the office called me and said that Vince would like me to be a producer the whole time. So the whole time i’ve been out i’ve been doing that.”

“It’s cool, it’s very flattering that i was chosen, [it’s an] incredible, one of a kind learning experience for sure. I don’t think it’s something i want to be doing at 33 years old, I feel like i’m in the prime of my wrestling career.”

What he has been doing

When asked who he’d been working with, Curt went into detail about the inner workings of the WWE:

“So, every meeting I’ll be assigned to someone, ‘hey, follow Jamie Noble all day and do what he does’ or, ‘follow Dean Malenko all day and do what he does’. Most of the time I’ve been with Tyson Kidd, who is one of my best friends, so that’s been really cool.”

When asked about the impact the experience had on his outlook on the business:

“On several things. I see how things get done and how things are done the way they’re done, why we’re told what we’re told as wrestlers. There’s reasons for things and sometimes you don’t know.”

Sam commented that the experience would benefit Curt’s wrestling even if he weren’t to work in production immediately. Hawkins agreed saying:

“I think that was the idea, the beneficial idea of it. I think more people will do what I’m doing when they get hurt, and the opportunity presents itself. You know, eventually our generation has to move on and do that kind of stuff.”
