WWE isn’t always a nice place to be if you are a former independent wrestler. Some make the transition to WWE television rather seamlessly like AJ Styles for example. However, for every success story, there will always be some wrestlers who don’t find that kind of success.
A current example of this is Mike Kanellis who recently teased that he might be interested in a move to the NXT brand.

The Kanellis’ received critical acclaim for their act in Impact Wrestling and Ring of Honor. So, when he and his wife Maria debuted at Money in the Bank last year, people were quite excited. At the time, Smackdown Live was lacking credible upper-mid-card heels and the Kanellis’ fit the bill. Their credibility soon faded, however, after the former-Mike Bennett decisively lost a feud to Sami Zayn.
Since that moment it’s been pretty downhill for Mike Kanellis. Maria has been on maternity leave since last September and, with Mike and Maria are a double act, Mike hasn’t been on WWE‘s main roster TV since. His last appearance was at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in April where he took part in the main event 50-man match… for four seconds.
The idea of moving to NXT could benefit Kanellis greatly. Triple H’s brainchild does a great job developing and redeveloping characters. With Kanellis’ many years of experience, he could also act as a locker room leader, helping younger talent grow as he does.
