A former WWE star has addressed his exit from the company, revealing that he actually requested his release prior to his departure.
Karl Fredericks – who wrestled as Eddy Thorpe in WWE NXT – was released from his WWE contract in May.
Fredericks has now taken to Twitter to share several posts about his exit. Replying to a user who noted that they enjoyed watching him on WWE TV, he wrote:
“I asked for my release from WWE so I could do something f**king meaningful with my life.”
In the comments section for this post, he agreed with another user that he had his best run in his final six months with NXT.
When asked why he requested his release, he wrote that he plans to “talk extensively” with Emilio Sparks, who hosts WrestleRap.
In another tweet, Fredericks revealed that WWE wouldn’t let him DJ for free during WrestleMania 41 weekend in Las Vegas.
In response to a user suggesting that he asked for his release because he “couldn’t cut it in the big leagues”, he wrote:
“I left WWE. Who was putting me in main events. Who featured me well for the better part of the last 3 years. Because I couldn’t cut it?
“I TURNED DOWN MONEY THAT A VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE DO NOT SEE because I couldn’t cut it? What does “cutting it” mean? I set the goal to work there.
“I spent a decade working for it. I got it. And in my experience I came to the conclusion I didn’t want to do it.”
Fredericks final match for WWE saw him face Lexis King, Wes Lee and eventual winner Ethan Page in a North American Championship #1 contender’s four-way bout on the April 15 NXT episode.
