James previously worked as a writer on Smackdown until 2019 transitioning to a producer role in NXT until suffering a heart attack led to him taking a break from the company and returning as a “utility player” continuing to support young talent as a coach and mentor since 2020.
Road Dogg was a 2019 inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside stablemates from the popular 90s faction Degeneration-X, also featuring his tag-team partner in New Age Outlaws, Billy Gunn as well as Shawn Michaels, Triple H, X-Pac, and the late Chyna.
