Wrestling Veteran Recalls Current Champion Considering Retirement Ahead Of WWE Run

A notable name in wrestling has recalled a current champion considering stepping away, ahead of their eventual run with WWE.

While speaking on Best For Business, veteran ring announcer John Cena Sr – the father of WWE star John Cena – named several wrestlers he predicted would be stars after working with them on the independent scene.

After naming Kofi Kingston as one of these talents he predicted big things for, Cena also highlighted Mercedes Mone as someone who he considered at the time to be a star in the making.

Recalling that the former “Sasha Banks” considered stepping away from wrestling at one point before ultimately signing with WWE, John Cena Sr said:

“Another one was Sasha Banks… I remember doing a show with her for Chris Setaro in Powerhouse Wrestling. Her mom was there and she said ‘I don’t know, I might give it up.’

“I said ‘No, don’t! You don’t realize what you have. She had so much ability, but it’s awful hard on the indies. It’s not an easy fight out there.

“It’s very easy to be defeated. I used to tell everybody – and I still do – don’t do that, only one person is going to defeat you in this business, it’s you.”
