A former WWE star has addressed negativity he has received since revealing that he reached out to the company about potentially returning.
With Matt Cardona reinventing himself since his WWE departure in 2020, there has been some speculation about the former Zack Ryder making a WWE comeback.
While speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Matt Cardona revealed that he has reached out to WWE on several occasions, noting:
“Honestly? Yeah (he’s surprised he hasn’t re-signed with WWE). Obviously I’m missing something, I don’t know what it is.
“Listen, people say to me all the time, especially since we just had WrestleMania, WrestleCon. Thousands of people, probably every other fan, if not every fan. ‘When are you coming back?’ Well, it’s not up to me.
“I’ve reached out many times. I shouldn’t say many, a few times, every couple months when something cool happens or I have something to say ‘Hey, look what I’m doing.’
“There’s been no offer… Everything’s very nice and professional, but no offer. And you know what, it is what it is, I’m gonna keep working my ass off.”
Matt Cardona has now taken to Twitter to note that he received backlash following these comments.
Addressing the negativity surrounding his interest in returning to WWE, Cardona wrote:

I just did an hour long interview with @ChrisVanVliet. I’ve received so much great feedback from fans who listened to the entire thing.
I’ve received so much negativity and hate for a one minute clip where I said (…wait for it) that I reached out to a wrestling company that I grew up watching, worked at for 14 years, and where my wife works.
You would have thought I said….well something REALLY bad! Haha. Anyway, check out the full interview. It’s a fun listen. There’s a reason CVV has the # 1 wrestling podcast.
Cardona has also addressed the possibility of him signing with AEW, click here to read more.
