WWE are returning to Madison Square Garden on March 16 for a live event for the first time since Boxing Day (December 26), which saw Roman Reigns defeat John Cena in the main event – go figure.
WWE and the landmark venue have a storied history, with many famous matches and moments transpiring under the famous ceiling, including Bret Hart vs Owen Hart at WrestleMania X, Bruno Sammartino vs Ernie Ladd, Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff at WrestleMania, Bret Hart vs Mr. Perfect at SummerSlam ’91, and many, many more too countless to mention. In recent years, WWE have shied away from staging major shows at the venue thanks to the large cost of shooting there, but hope is eternal that they will return to satiate us nostalgic fans at some point.

Until then, we have make do with the odd super-house show, combining stars from Raw and Smackdown Live – as all pay-per-view events will post-WrestleMania – which will at least ensure the evening retains a special quality. Though a re-run of Raw’s Royal Rumble headliner, the main event is being touted as a first-time-ever Madison Square Garden happening, in which Brock Lesnar defends the WWE Universal Championship in a triple threat match against Kane and Braun Strowman. Hopefully this will break the one minute mark.
The rest of the show is shaping up like this:
- Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins & Finn Balor vs The Miz & The Miztourage
- John Cena & Nikki Bella vs Elias & Bayley
- AJ Styles & Shinsuke Nakamura vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
- The Bar vs The New Day vs Titus Worldwide for the Raw Tag Team Championships
