WWE Reveals Slammy Award Winners

WWE Reveals Slammy Award Winners

WWE has announced the winners of the 2020 Slammy Awards, the most prestigious awards in sports history.

Fans had the chance to vote for ‘The Best of Raw and SmackDown’ earlier this month. Now that the votes have been counted, WWE has revealed the winners of each category.

Male Superstar of the Year, and the overall award for Superstar of the Year went to Drew McIntyre. With two WWE Championship reigns and amazing matches with Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and AJ Styles, it’s hard to dispute that 2020 was the Scotman’s year.

Sasha Banks won a Slammy Award for Female Superstar of the Year, with brilliant bouts against Asuka, and a jaw-dropping Hell in a Cell encounter with Bayley.

The Match of the Year Slammy was won by AJ Styles vs. The Undertaker’s Boneyard Match. This WrestleMania 36 match was Undertaker’s swan song, and one of the first cinematic matches of 2020, showing fans what could still be achieved during the pandemic era.

Speaking of The Undertaker, his ‘Final Farewell’ at Survivor Series won the Slammy Award for Moment of the Year. However you feel about the actual segment, seeing Undertaker grace the ring for possibly the last time truly made that moment the must-see.

The Street Profits won two awards, the Slammy awards for Tag Team of the Year and Breakout Star of the Year. Bayley also took home two Slammy trophies, one for Double Cross of the Year (after attacking Sasha Banks), and one for Social Media Superstar of the Year, for her provocative tweets.

Charles Robinson was awarded Referee of the Year, and The Hurt Business and Lacey Evans co-won the Trash Talker of the Year award.

Not only is The Gronk a former 24/7 Champion, Rob Gronkowski now owns a Slammy Award, winning Celebrity Appearance of the Year.

Edge’s showstopping appearance at Royal Rumble earned him the award for Return of the Year, whilst his feud with Randy Orton won the Slammy award for Rivalry of the Year.

Finally, The New Day proved that they still rock, winning Ring Gear of the Year.
