A former WWE Tag Team Champion wants to revive their old gimmick, although they want to do it in a non-wrestling capacity.
D-Von Dudley brought back his Reverend persona for a music video during the feud between Trick Williams and Ethan Page in NXT.
The pair would face off at NXT Halloween Havoc, with Williams retaining the NXT Championship at the October 27, 2024, event.
Reverend D-Von was a short-lived character that saw Dudley joined by Deacon Batista and serving as the spiritual advisor to Vince McMahon.
With the character only existed for a brief period in 2002, Dudley recently re-explored the character on his YouTube channel, discussing its return in the Williams video, saying:
“So one of the things I was happy about was that in NXT, Trick Williams called me and wanted me to do a video with him getting ready for his match.
“So when he called me, he said, ‘D-Von, you did the Reverend D-Von character, and I loved it. I would love for you to come in this video and do exactly what you did back then.’
“I was ecstatic. I was like, ‘Yes, I get a chance to showcase what the Reverend D-Von character was all about to the new generation of fans.'”
The WWE Hall of Famer would then discuss the impact of the return of Reverend D-Von before revealing he hoped he could bring it back once again, stating:
“It was a great response. It was something that the fans were really enjoying, because this was something that I really felt that I never got my just due for, because I thought the character was doing really well.
“Again, I look back on it. I don’t think it was my failure. I think it was the company that didn’t let it really breathe and let it happen, hopefully one day I’ll be able to come back as Reverend D-Von, but without being in the ring.”
Having served as a producer in WWE until his departure in January 2023, D-Von Dudley has previously stated he is “sure” he would return to the company in the future.
D-Von and Bubba Ray Dudley held WWE Tag Team Championships nine times and were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2018.
