Buddy Matthews Addresses Potentially Joining Rhea Ripley & Dominik Mysterio WWE Storyline

AEW star Buddy Matthews has addressed the possibility of a storyline involving himself and WWE stars Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio.

Throughout Ripley and Mysterio’s onscreen partnership, many fans shared pitches for Ripley’s real-life husband Buddy Matthews to play into the storyline.

With Ripley and Mysterio now at odds following Dirty Dom’s betrayal at SummerSlam, setting up a match between Matthews and Mysterio would be easy, if the duo were in the same company.

Speaking during a K&S Wrestlefest virtual signing, Matthews noted that he believes there’s potential for a storyline between the three of them if a forbidden door opens up in the future.

Noting that he has pitched ideas to Ripley, Matthews said:

“Oh, 100 percent (there’s potential for an angle with myself, Rhea Ripley & Dominik Mysterio)… And we’ve fantasy-booked and I’ve thrown ideas at her. She’s like, ‘That would be so cool.’

“Obviously, don’t wanna let it out because if it ever eventually did ever happen, it’s something cool to kind of play off but, it’s definitely ways to do it which would be very smart and catch people. But, I had Dom’s first or second match in WWE. I was there with Seth (Rollins) when he hit him with a Singapore cane 100 times. I ‘dated’ his sister, you know what I mean? I was a part of the Mysterio family.

“Long-term storytelling is there if we wanted to go back and do it, and the footage is there so, whether it is a relationship-form or just insert — there’s ways of doing it. So, and then again, with where we are with wrestling today, you can break that fourth wall in a way.

“They do in Deadpool & Wolverine… Maybe there’s a forbidden door that’s unknown and may open up eventually. Who knows? But, all we can do is play cards that we have in front of us down so, you know, you never know what’s gonna happen tomorrow that could be good, bad. Anything can happen in any given day whether it’s in the ring, in business, it could be at home, could be on the way to the airport. You just don’t know, so, anything could change.”

Ripley will challenge for Liv Morgan’s WWE Women’s World Championship at Bad Blood 2024. Dominik Mysterio will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage during this bout.
