Roman Reigns Breaks Another Incredible WWE Record WWE

The Universal Champion and Head of the Table that is Roman Reigns has broken yet another record in the history of WWE.

Since defeating ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt at WWE Payback on August 30 2020, Roman Reigns has been the Universal Champion for a staggering 872 days (as of writing this news story).

On January 18, the WWEStats Twitter account acknowledged that:

“Today, @WWERomanReigns’s active reign as Universal Champion (2020-Present) reaches 871 days, surpassing @Gunther_AUT’s NXT UK Title reign (2019-2021) for the longest single/consecutive championship reign in the entire @WWE Universe in the last 35+ years. #HeadOfTheTable.”

At WrestleMania 38, Reigns would face the then WWE Champion Brock Lesnar in a Winner Takes All Match, unifying both the WWE Universal Championship and the WWE Championship.

Roman Reigns has held the WWE Universal Championship on two occasions.

His first reign also saw him defeat Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam in August 2018.

Reigns would relinquish the championship on WWE Raw in October 2022 following a re-diagnosis of leukaemia.

Gunther’s NXT UK championship reign started back in his days as Walter, defeating Pete Dunne at the April 5, 2019 edition of NXT TakeOver: New York.

He would hold the championship for 870 before losing it to Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36 which took place on August 22, 2021.
