A former WWE name has claimed that Vince McMahon wasn’t interested in a proposed big Ronda Rousey match despite internal interest.
Debuting in November 2014, the Four Horsewomen would be Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, and Bayley of then WWE NXT fame.
On the other side of the equation, there was the MMA’s Four Horsewomen, comprising of Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir, Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke.
Former WWE writer Chris Dunn recently appeared on the Public Enemies Podcast and spoke about whether the hopes that both teams would collide was ever a likely eventuality, saying:
“I don’t think Vince was ever on board with it. I think others in the company were.
“I think it probably could’ve ended up happening eventually, but it wasn’t anything ever really on the docket.
“I think some people really wanted it to happen and build towards it, but I feel like if everyone was still with the company now, it definitely would’ve.”
The closest we would get to the encounter would be a pre-WWE Rousey with Shafir and Duke running into Flair, Lynch and Bayley during the Mae Young Classic.
Rousey would lay down a challenge, but this would never come to fruition.
The difficulty of putting on the match now would be the absence of Banks, now Mercedes Mone in New Japan; Shafir, who is part of the AEW roster; and Duke, who was released by WWE in May 2021.
