WWE Royal Rumble Crossing Over To Another Sport? WWE

Two of the biggest names in darts have commented on the possibility of the WWE Royal Rumble crossing over to the PDC.

Luke Humphries and Luke Littler, ranked #1 and #2 respectively in the PDC world rankings, have both previously discussed being fans of WWE.

Littler in particular famously uses Greenlight by Pitbull as his walk-on music because it was the theme song of WrestleMania 33, which he attended.

He also walked out to Cody Rhodes’ Kingdom theme last year when the PDC US Darts Masters took place at The Theater in Madison Square Garden.

There was actually something of a WWE/PDC crossover around that time last year, as Littler and Peter Wright visited WWE HQ, with WWE releasing a video of them playing darts with William Regal – who’s a big darts fan – and Pretty Deadly.

The idea of a ‘Royal Rumble’ style tournament in darts has been talked about and advocated for by many, including 2010 Players Champion Paul Nicholson, who used to pay homage to CM Punk on a regular basis during his time as a top player, as well as Matthew Edgar, who has worn shirts in the style of Hulk Hogan with the slogan ‘EdgarMania’, and Shawn Michaels with ‘The Dart-Break Kid’.

The idea would be that two players go one-on-one, and when one of them wins, the loser is eliminated and the next surprise player makes their entrance, and that cycle continues in a ‘winner stays on’ style tournament.

During an appearance on SPORTBible’s Agree To Disagree show, Littler and Humphries were asked if they think the PDC should introduce that format.

Littler chose the ‘Strongly Agree’ option, while Humphries chose ‘Agree’.

Humphries said:

“I think it’d be good. The thing is, you probably couldn’t rank it or anything because you’d have to make sure you’re not taking too much away from the seriousness of the sport. But I think it would be a good laugh, a good bit of fun. I think the fans would love it as well.”

Littler then added:

“I don’t think you could go above one leg of 501. Straight away, one leg, the loser goes off, and then the next player, they’ll do the walk-on, and so on and so on.”

They also joked that 16-time world champion Phil Taylor could come out of retirement to make his surprise return as the #30 entrant.

Later in the show, they were asked if they thought darts tournament trophies should be replaced by championship belts, which they both disagreed with, although they joked that they’d be walking around looking like the tag team champions because of how many belts they’d both have.

Littler and Humphries will in fact essentially be tag team partners representing England in the upcoming PDC World Cup of Darts, a pairs tournament featuring the two best players from 40 countries that takes place next month.
