Backstage News On Major WWE Royal Rumble, SummerSlam & WrestleMania Indianapolis Deal WWE

There has been a new backstage update on the massive deal announced today (June 24) that will see Indianapolis host the 2025 WWE Royal Rumble, as well as a future SummerSlam and WrestleMania.

As confirmed via a WWE press release, the company have reached an agreement with the Indiana Sports Corp to bring several future events to the state.

The first event of this new partnership will be the 2025 Royal Rumble on February 1, which will be staged at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, with two-night SummerSlam and WrestleMania events also coming at a later date.

In a new update Fightful Select noted that the later than usual February 1 date for the 2025 Royal Rumble is something that has “long been discussed” in WWE, along with a potential May date for WrestleMania 41 also once being on the table.

The report notes that avoiding the Super Bowl weekend was something of great importance in WWE’s decision making to stage the Rumble in February.

However it was also noted that the change is not necessarily a permanent one and could differ each year dependent on when the Super Bowl is staged.

As for when we could potentially see Indianapolis’ SummerSlam, Fightful Select noted that the 2026 edition of the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’ in Minnesota is still set to be the first two-night iteration of the event, meaning Indianapolis’ turn would come afterwards.

With SummerSlam now looking to be joining WrestleMania as two-night events, it was noted that there is no current word on the Royal Rumble also being changed to a full weekend affair.

However, a longtime WWE higher-up did tell Fightful that the Rumble event is constructed in a way that makes that a feasible change to make.

Finally, a WWE source highlighted several positives in regards to Indianapolis as a host city for future events, including its “ease of access”, “proximity to other cities” and its “indoor stadium”.

WrestleTalk will provide further updates on the WWE’s deal with Indianapolis as/when they become available.
