At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC, Shawn Michaels was set to moderate a contract signing between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens.
In an in-ring contract signing segment, Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens met face-to-face ahead of their match at Royal Rumble 2025.
While the duo were already confirmed for a ladder match, the final detail before next Saturday’s event was to sign the contract and hand over their respective title belts.
Rhodes of course carries the current Undisputed WWE Championship belt, but Owens has continued to maintain the vintage WWE ‘Winged Eagle’ title belt after last month’s edition of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
After a tense exchange between the two, the contract would ultimately get signed but it wasn’t without strife.
When Owens delayed signing the contract twice, it would be Shawn Michaels who interjected to note that, “Geez Kevin, you just sound jealous.”
Owens would go on to mock HBK ahead of putting pen to paper and after aggressively handing it back to Michaels, the segment would end up getting physical.
After Owens refused to shake Michaels’ hand and hit Rhodes from behind, a shoving match between KO and HBK would also break out.
When KO attempted to get Shawn Michaels primed for the brutal package piledriver, instead Michaels would escape and go on to hit his iconic Sweet Chin Music finishing move on Owens to end the segment.
