Former WWE Star Calls NXT Run A Highlight Of Their Life

A former WWE champion has now called a specific part of their run with the company a highlight of their life.

Having departed WWE in July, Shayna Baszler was previously backstage at NXT, with subsequent reporting suggesting she could take up a backstage position in the future.

While it remains to be seen how Baszler could fit back into WWE, she has recently reflected on a time with the company that she describes as “a highlight of my life.”

During a recent interview with Catch Club, Baszler opened up about her time as NXT Champion during the ‘Black & Gold’ era, saying:

“Obviously, Black & Gold NXT holds a special place in everyone’s heart who was a part of that.

“I had a long time as champion there, it’s not even that, it’s just that it was such a special (time), we created magic.

“I think for sure the Black & Gold era was like a highlight of my life.”

The Black & Gold era of NXT would run from the program’s launch as a weekly wrestling show (as opposed to its earlier “reality show” pairing rookies with main roster stars) in May 2012 until the 2.0 era began in September 2021.

Baszler would hold the NXT Women’s Championship on two occasions; with her first reign running from TakeOver New Orleans in April 2018 until August that year, with her second reign starting at WWE Evolution in October, coming to an end in December 2019.

Called up to the main roster the following February, Baszler would also hold the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship twice with Nia Jax and once with Ronda Rousey.

NXT would drop its colorful 2.0 branding in September 2022, returning to an arguably more understated gold color scheme that continues to today.
