Potential WWE Signing Vacates Championship

Potential WWE Signing Vacates Championship WWE

Here’s why a European star who is reportedly close to signing with WWE just vacated his championship, with rumors swirling about his future.

As recently reported by Fightful Select, Spanish talent Zozaya, French masked wrestler Aigle Blanc, and Belgian free-agent Mike D Vecchio are “on the verge of being signed” after attending the WWE UK tryout earlier this year.

This isn’t the only announcement made surrounding Mike D Vecchio, with top German promotion wXw announcing that D Vecchio’s wXw European Championship has been vacated.

While the initial announcement turned people’s heads, wXw confirmed that the title being vacated is down to D Vecchio needing time off due to a “persistent knee injury”, rather than him leaving the promotion at this point.

wXw announced:

wXw European Champion Mike D Vecchio has informed us that he will unfortunately have to take another extended break due to a persistent knee injury that has been recurring since last August.

Mike had already taken a break for some time during the winter. Since Mike has to cancel all wXw dates until the end of July and would now face a second multi-month break without title defenses during his European Championship Reign, we unfortunately see no other option than to vacate the wXw European Championship.

We wish Mike D. Vecchio a full recovery during his break.

While this title relinquishment was announced just before the report about the now-former champion signing with WWE, wXw did acknowledge this report, writing the following a separate tweet along with a list of matches:

While we can’t comment on current rumors, what we can definitely offer you is a packed load of strong matches between Aigle Blanc and Mike D. Vecchio!

Mike D Vecchio last wrestled on May 18 for AJPW, unsuccessfully challenging for ELPIDA’s All Asian Tag Team Championship alongside fellow potential WWE signing Aigle Blanc.

This came after D Vecchio finishing the AJPW Champion Carnival tournament with eight points in the B Block.

Fightful Select’s report noted that the belief within WWE is that any talent signed from the UK tryout would begin with the company in September.

We wish Mike D Vecchio a safe and healthy recovery.
