SmackDown Star Continues 21 Year WWE Streak

SmackDown Star Continues 21 Year WWE Streak WWE

Rey Mysterio continued an impressive WWE streak with his match on Friday’s (January 17) edition of SmackDown.

Mysterio faced off against Kevin Owens on this show in singles action. Owens was ultimately victorious, defeating Mysterio in just over 15 minutes of action.

While the luchador ultimately came up short, this match was a lot more meaningful in the grand scheme of Mysterio’s career.

As pointed out by Wrestling Stats & Info on Twitter, Rey Mysterio has now had matches in 21 separate calendar years, with his most recent bout being his first of 2025.

These 21 years weren’t even consecutive, with Mysterio competing away from WWE from 2015 to 2018.

This means Friday’s match furthered Mysterio’s now-21 year streak of total calendar years competing for WWE, as well as the eight year consecutive streak of years he has competed in WWE without missing a year.

Per Wrestling Stats & Info:

Though he came up short against @FightOwensFight, @reymysterio’s appearance on #SmackDown was his first match of 2025.

That means Mysterio has now competed in @WWE in 21 different calendar years; 2002-2014, and 2018-2025.

(His #WCW debut was in June of 1996.)

An interesting producer was listed for this match, which you can read more about right here.
