A major update has emerged regarding WWE’s plans to revert SmackDown back to a two hour runtime in June.
Beginning with the January 3, 2025 episode, WWE SmackDown has been a three hour program on the USA Network.
The change from two hours to three is one that has divided fan opinion, however, the plan, as stated by Triple H back in January was for the show to switch back to two hours later in 2025, with June 6 being reported to be the target month.
As June approached however, there was no official word from WWE regarding this change, with USA Network still having the show listed internally at a three hour runtime according to a recent update.
Now, in a major new development, WrestleVotes has revealed on WrestleVotes Radio that SmackDown is set to remain a three hour show for the “foreseeable future”, with USA said to be happy with its performance:
“According to sources, the plans for SmackDown show length on USA Network changed back in January. WWE and USA agreed that the May 30 show would be the final three-hour presentation, with the show reverting back to two hours on the June 6 edition.
“We are told the show will remain three hours for the foreseeable future, as USA Network was steadfast on keeping it that length. Sources say USA has been happy overall with the performance of the show, numbers-wise, with the extra third hour.”
WWE has yet to comment on SmackDown’s runtime publicly, but we will provide further update if they do.
This week’s SmackDown is set to see two more Money in the Bank qualifying matches – with Andrade, Jacob Fatu and Carmelo Hayes facing off, as well as Jade Cargill, Naomi and Nia Jax.
