Ahead of WWE Raw’s premiere on Netflix, plans for the January 3 episode of SmackDown have now been revealed for international markets.
With WWE’s TV deals in Canada, United Kingdom and many other international markets set to expire at the end of 2024, Dave Meltzer has now revealed what the company plan to do about the January 3 WWE SmackDown broadcast, which is scheduled to air prior to WWE’s deal with Netflix beginning on January 6.
According to Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE will air that specific episode of SmackDown on the company’s official YouTube channel as a one-off:
“The way those contracts end and start there’s a gap which is actually only one show but Canada, the UK, most of the world. The exceptions are like the US, Germany, Philippines, but almost everywhere the contracts, the television deals end this year.
“Netflix picks up on January 6, so the January 3 SmackDown show… that just kind of falls in the cracks.
“In all of those countries, WWE will be putting up that SmackDown show on YouTube that week… Netflix will start with Raw on the 6th, NXT on the 7th and SmackDown on the 10th outside the United States, pretty much all over the world.”

A kick-off event for WWE Raw on Netflix was recently confirmed to be taking place on Wednesday December 18.

Meltzer has previously stated that a lot of content from the WWE Network won’t be making its way to Netflix.
