WWE SmackDown Live News in Brief, May 15 2018

SmackDown Live came from the o2 Arena in London last night and here’s what went down:

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated AJ Styles in a match where the winner gets to pick the stipulation for their title bout at Money in the Bank. So expect a Low Blows Are Legal match. Nakamura won with an Exploder and Kinshasa after he distracted Styles by feigning a low blow injury. The crowd popped for Shin’s win.

The New Day defeated The Bar in a match where one of the winning team will enter the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Big E took out Sheamus with a spectacular spear to the outside then Xavier Woods pinned Cesaro after a flying elbowdrop. It has not been made clear which member of the New Day will now enter MITB.

Becky Lynch qualified for the women’s MITB match by beating Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. There was dissention between the Asbolution members during the bout. Lynch took advantage of a Rose-Deville miscommunication to counter a Mandy roll up into the Disarmer for the tap-out in a good match.

Daniel Bryan cut an in-ring promo with Renee Young where he vowed to become WWE Champion. Big Cass came out and vowed to stop this from happening by being Bryan’s “7 foot shadow”. This guy is SERIOUSLY annoying on the microphone. DB responded by beating the holy hell out of Cass and making him scream in agony and tap to a heel hook. The fans loved this.

The Royal Mellabration began with a town crier – who sounded strangely like Woken Matt Hardy – and beefeaters heralding the arrival of SmackDown Live women’s champion Carmella. She cut a superb obnoxious in-ring promo but didn’t really get much heat from the fans. SmackDown Live GM Paige turned up and told Mella she’ll defend the title at Money in the Bank and introduced her challenger. Askua came out. Mella left. The fans reacted big for Asuka.

Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas debuted with a hammerlock DDT win over somebody called Jake Constantino.

Samoa Joe cut a promo on Big Cass. They will face each other next week in a MITB qualifier. Is Joe turning face?

Rusev and Aiden English were backtage when Lana arrived to announce she’ll meet Billie Kay in a qualifier next week, giving Rusev and Lana the chance to be the first ever Mr and Mrs Money in the Bank. That would be awesome.

The Iiconics cut a backstage promo about Billie Kay’s match next week. They were hilarious as usual.

(Also watch out for 205 Live this week which features WWE UK’s Tyler Bate, James Drake and Joseph Conners, as well as newcomers Flash Morgan Webster and Kenny Williams in action.)

Good show, this. Lots of fun and plenty of storyline advancement. SmackDown is better than Raw at the moment.
