Major Title Change On WWE SmackDown WWE

A major title change has taken place on today’s January 9 episode of WWE SmackDown emanating from Berlin, Germany.

The main event of SmackDown had been building for weeks and saw Cody Rhodes put the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against Drew McIntyre.

The match was Three Stages of Hell, with the first stage being a regular match, the second stage being falls count anywhere, and the third stage being a steel cage match.

McIntyre won the first fall before Rhodes leveled it up and things came down the deciding stage inside the steel cage.

However, a third man got involved in the match in the form of the returning Jacob Fatu, who has been out for a few months after he was attacked backstage.

Fatu broke into the cage and immediately started attacking McIntyre – the man who seemed most likely to have been his attacker months ago.

However, Rhodes wasn’t happy about Fatu getting involved, which led to Fatu and Rhodes breaking off into a fight of their own.

This left McIntyre alone and able to escape out of the cage through the still-open door to win the match and become Undisputed WWE Champion.

The win makes McIntyre a four-time WWE world champion after two previous WWE Championship wins in 2020 and a World Heavyweight Championship win in 2024.

McIntyre is the fourth man to win this particular version of the Undiputed WWE Championship that was born in the Bloodline era after Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes and John Cena.

McIntyre will defend the title at Royal Rumble against the winner of a four-way at Saturday Night’s Main Event with participants determined by the winners of four matches on SmackDown next week, which are Randy Orton vs The Miz, Matt Cardona vs Trick Williams, Damian Priest vs Solo Sikoa, and Sami Zayn vs Ilja Dragunov.
